Obituary
Justin Wayne Fortner, 44, of Williston, Florida, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023. Justin was born on August 25, 1979, in Sanford, Florida to parents Don and Brenda Fortner of Williston, Florida. From farming, welding, and mechanic work, to cowboying, there was nothing that Justin could not do. Justin would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need and he was always willing to lend a hand. Justin loved the outdoors. Growing up, he showed cutting horses with his brother, Grady, and his father, Don. They traveled the United States together, hitting every crawfish restaurant they could find along the way. As Justin grew older, he found a passion for hog hunting and hog dogs. He was known for having some of the best hunting dogs in Levy County. Justin would light up as he told stories of his hog hunting adventures with many of his closest friends. He was also known for cooking the best swamp cabbage. Justin was deeply loved and will be missed dearly by many. He is preceded in death by his loving father, Don Wayne Fortner, along with his grandparents, Horace and Edith Fortner and Louie and Corrine Allen. Justin is survived by his only son, William Wayne Fortner; mother Brenda Slaughter (Billy Slaughter); only brother William Grady Fortner (Michelle Lynn Fortner); his uncle Ricky Allen; nieces and nephew, Lena (Gracie) Fortner, Trip Fortner, Abigayle Hampton, and Lillian Hampton; as well as his cousins Clay and Shelly, and many extended family members and loved ones in Alabama and Levy County, Florida. A funeral service will be held at the Rafter Cross Cowboy Church on Monday, October 30, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. and Pastor Billy Keith will officiate. Justin will be laid to rest beside his father at Odd Fellow Cemetery in Quitman, Mississippi on Friday, November 3, 2023, following a private graveside service for family and close friends. Arrangements for the funeral service are under the care of Knauff Funeral Home, Williston, Florida. Arrangements for the graveside service are under the care of Wright's Funeral Home, Quitman, Mississippi. You my dear Justin were dearly loved by the Davis family from the first time you came to our house for dinner a requirement in order to take our daughter on a date. You impressed us with your politeness, respect, kindness, you made us laugh, and you were a little mischievous. Jessicas fathers gun that he wore on his hip and his sheriff uniform or the castrating tool that sat in full view didnt seem to bother you but I believe you got the point dont disrespect our baby girl you seemed to know it was our sick sense of humor to make a point. You never gave us reason not to trust you. Well maybe that one time when I asked what you guys did in the woods and Jessica replied well mom we talk to the lord it took me awhile to figure out the lord was Lord Calvert all though Im sure you guys talked about our Heavenly Father as well. Much love little cowboy rest in Gods peace.
