Margaret Hiers

Margaret W. Hiers, age 92, of Chiefland, passed away on September 27, 2023, at Tri-Counties Hospice Care Center in Chiefland. Margaret was born on June 18, 1931, in Gainesville, to Samuel Ellis and Allie Mae Cannon Wimberly. She attended several schools in Florida throughout her life, returning to and graduating from Chiefland High School. She worked as a secretary for Hiers Oil Company and then in midlife became a Realtor, owning Margaret W. Hiers Realty until she retired at 79 years of age. Margaret was very talented and artistic, enjoying many crafts throughout her life, and winning several awards for her paintings. She was a member of Chiefland Church of Christ for many years and also attended Cherry Sink Church of Christ. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, her husband, John D. "Bud" Hiers, Jr., her sister, Lulu Mae Dortch, her brother, Marty Wimberly, and her son-in-law Howell E. Lancaster, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia D. Hiers and her husband, Robbie Emmons, and her daughter, Sheree H. Lancaster, all of Trenton. She is also survived by her brother, Sam ( Bonnie) Wimberly, and her sister, Charlotte Hancock, both of Palatka and 5 grandchildren, Deen ( Lena ) Lancaster of Trenton, Trip ( Leah ) Lancaster of Fanning Springs, Clint Emmons, Chris Emmons, and Beth Emmons and 9 great-grandchildren. Margaret was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be graveside at Chiefland Cemetery on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive visitors at the Tri-Counties Hospice Community Room in Chiefland immediately following the service. Light refreshments will be served.
