Obituary
Joyce Lynn Helton Watson, of Alachua, Florida, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023. She was 67 years old. She was born to Virgil Sr. and Ida Mae on January 6, 1956, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Joyce is an avid animal lover and she loved the color pink. She was a nurse for over 30 years and happily retired from that field. Joyce was especially proud of her Cherokee background, just some of her hobbies included sewing, crafts, fishing, and cooking for her family. Joyce was a collector of Barbie dolls and teacups. She loved to help people and her bright shining soul filled every room she entered with joy. She is preceded in death by her parents Virgil Sr. and Ida Mae Helton, her sister Janise Helton, son Michael Hodson, granddaughter Hailey Hodson and nephew Little John. Joyce is survived by her husband of 44 years Willie Eugene Watson, her two children, James Robert Hodson and Laura Marie Watson, four brothers Virgil Helton, Jr. and his wife Lynn, Scotty Helton and his wife Tonya, John Lee Helton, and James Helton. Three sisters Karen Ward, Patricia "Snooki" Colvin, her husband Johnny, and Janice Helton. Seven grandchildren Skye, Adrian, Joseph, Saylor, Julian, Raven, and Abbigail. Two great grandchildren Luna and Braxton, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. A viewing will be held from 12:00-1:00 pm the same day. A memorial will follow at the Newberry Cemetery (700 SW 260th St, Newberry, FL 32669). In lieu of flowers, the family requests potted plants. Her love and light are missed by everyone who knows her. Let us rejoice in the memory of our bright, shining light. Her light may not shine upon the earth any longer but when you start to miss her you can look up to the night sky to see her shining bright upon us all. Rest well our shining star.
