Juanita Quillen

Juanita Quillen passed away August 9th,2023. She was born in Chiefland, Florida on March 31st,1927 to parents John Ashley Harper and Leslie Jeffries Harper. She was raised by her grandmother Pearl Harper. Juanita Harper was always tenacious and a hard worker. Right out of high school, she went to work in civil service in Orlando. This training led her on the path to Jacksonville, Florida to work for the Ryder Trucking company. There she met the love of her life Can Quillen, who was serving his county for the US Navy. They fell in love after meeting at a USO dance and the rest was history. They married on October 22nd, 1948. Juanita and Cans marriage was blessed with two children, Ronnie born August 2nd,1949 and Ann born April 7th, 1952. Juanita and Can were both employees of Cain and Boltman for 35 years together from 1954 until 1989. They then retired together to Trenton, Florida on a home built on Harper family land. Juanita is survived by husband Can after 74 years of marriage. She is also survived by daughter Ann, son in law Gene, four grandchildren (Tommie, John, Regina and Allisha), nephew Thomas Harper and his family, as well as 7 great grandchildren. Juanita was known for her love of gardening. She spent most of her spare time in her yard tending to her flowers and plants. Despite her love of the outdoors, she never learned to swim or drive. Her brother TJ told a funny story of trying to teach her to drive that ended in disaster and she never wanted to attempt driving again. She also enjoyed sewing and cooking. She would never allow you to leave her home hungry. Juanita loved her friends and family and enjoyed sitting and talking with everyone she met. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 16 from 6-8pm. Funeral service will be held at 2pm the following day at Knauff Funeral Home Chiefland. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Knauff Funeral Home Chiefland.
