William Viertel

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William "Bill" Viertel on Sunday, July 16th. He was born on March 11, 1937, in Columbus, Ohio. He grew up in Ohio until he made the move to Cedar Key, FL in 1978. He was a prominent leader in the Cedar Key community. He was an active member of the Cedar Key Lions Club and a strong supporter of Cedar Key Chambers of Commerce. He was a successful promoter of the island and loved every minute he lived in Cedar Key. As a pillar of the community, he volunteered in the Cedar Key fire department and EMS. For over 40 years he lived in Cedar Key, he owned many small businesses including a video store and the Gulf Side Motel. He also served in the US Navy from 1954-1962. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1962. Bill was predeceased by his father Herbert Viertel, mother Annabelle Mundy, and daughter Trina Hampton. He leaves behind his incredible wife of 37 years Susan and their "fur baby" Ben Jr. Daughters Teri Pasquallome and Tracie Werner along with his granddaughters Maliya and Madyson. Adopted daughters Mary with husband Victor along with their three children Sean, Rosie, & Maggie and Lissette with her husband Jason along with their three children Isaac, Chase, & Owen. He also leaves behind nephew Frank and niece Ma Fe. Bill requested a Celebration of Life to be held in his honor during sunrise (6:54 am) on Friday, August 4th in Cedar Key beach. We request all of Bills loved ones to join us in remembrance of a life well lived! A short prayer service will be held and a short program to honor his request. Light refreshments will immediately follow in the covered pavilion. For those who want to join the family, Bills ashes will be sent to its final resting place at Forest Meadows Central 4100 North West 39th Avenue: Gainesville, FL 32606 at 12PM. Arrangements are under the care of Knauff Funeral Home of Chiefland.
