Barbara Weeks

Barbara Rose Priest Weeks passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023; she was 85. Born January 15, 1938, in Morriston, Florida, to parents Rosa Mae and F.W. Priest, she graduated from Williston High School in 1955 and later graduated with a degree in Education from Montreat College in 1959. Upon returning home to Williston, Barbara married William C. Weeks (Billy) in 1960. She later earned her Masters degree in education from the University of Florida in 1972. A lifelong resident of Levy County, Barbara began teaching elementary school in Williston in the early 1960s then worked several years with the welfare department. In 1970, when she returned to teaching, she completed her Masters degree while raising a young family and teaching full time. Barbara taught 5th and 6th grade for most of her teaching career. She taught many of Willistons children and their children. She could not go through the grocery store without someone stopping to say hello to Mrs. Weeks. She retired from Levy County School System in 2003, teaching for 33 years. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, William C. Weeks (Billy), son Walter Weeks (Donna), daughter Beth Webb (Keith), son Toney Weeks (Kelly), and daughter Catherine Davis (Tony). Grandchildren Sarah Oliveros (Eddy), Emma Weeks, Caleb, and Kailey Davis and Great Grandchildren Sebastian, Lucy, and Penelope Oliveros. Barbara has one sister Patsy Fugate and brothers Reggie Priest (Diane) and Hallie Priest (Karen) and sister-in law Era Weeks Smith. She leaves cousins and many nieces and nephews as well as great and great, great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Danny Priest, Eddie Priest and brother-law Walter H. Weeks. Barbara was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Williston, she was a choir member, Sunday school teacher, nursery volunteer, assisted and helped coordinate with the Thanksgiving Basket ministry and the director of Vacation Bible School for many, many summers. Barbara was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society for women educators. Barbaras joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed studying her bible, reading, listening to music and being out-doors, especially summer days at Blue Run. The Weeks family would like to acknowledge with much love, gratitude, and appreciation the caregivers who have allowed our parents to remain at home: Ekeisha, Hope, Betty, Martha, Evelyn, Mary, Vanessa and Ashley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's memory to: Alzheimer's Association, Parkinsons Foundation, or to the First Baptist Church of Williston in memory of Barbara Weeks. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 10:00 am at the Williston First Baptist Church. Pastor Jason Owenby will officiate. Burial will be held at the Orange Hill Cemetery in Williston, Florida. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Knauff Funeral Home Williston.
