Obituary
Lamar Greene was born June 15, 1946 in Ocala Florida to Ben and Reba Pedrick Greene. He lived in St. Petersburg Florida from the age of 2 until he joined the USAF in 1967. He graduated from Boca Ceiga High School and attended St Petersburg Jr College. He met his wife Eileen Nearing while in High School and they later married while he was stationed at Lowry AFB. Denver ,Co. They have two children Michelle Greene -Defa and Michael Greene. Lamar served two tours in the USAF serving twice at Lowry, AFB Denver, Co, McChord AFB, Tacoma Washington, and Naha AFB Okinawa. After his time in the Air Force Lamar went to work at the Henderson Molybdenum Mine outside of Denver. He worked underground and helped write and implement the Mine safety training program. During those years he was an active member of the Mine Rescue Team. In 1980 Lamar accepted a safety training position at the new Tenneco Minerals ( Solvay Minerals) Soda Ash Mine in Green River, Wy. He wore many hats while at Solvay and retired in 2006 as Electrical, digital control Forman. After retirement Lamar and Eileen returned to the land of his youth in Levy County Florida. Lamar was always a science guy that loved to teach and interact with people. He quickly found a home with the Nature Coast Master Gardeners and the Florida Master Naturalist Program. For many years he volunteered selflessly with these programs until Alzheimers impaired his ability to teach and mentor others early in 2022. Lamar is survived by his wife of 56 years Eileen, his daughter Michelle Greene-Defa and husband Dermont Defa of Grantsville, Utah, his son Michael Greene, wife Jamie and daughter Cheyenne of Tooele, Utah. Grandson Joey Greene and wife Brooke Clevinger Greene of Morriston , Fl , Grandson Dylan Defa and soon to be wife Tayler Gibson of Grantsville, Utah. His sister Pam and husband Henry Legler of Citrus Springs, Fl. Family and friends too numerous to list but all very special in his life. The family is beyond touched and appreciate the outpouring of love from family and friends, and the support of the Ocala Veterans programs and the care and kindness of the Haven Hospice of Chiefland, Florida. He passed peacefully in their care Friday evening January 27, 2023 from complications of Alzheimers. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Knauff Funeral Home Williston.

I grew up with Lamar in Gulfport in the early 1950s. We lived across the street from each other. He had a red wagon he often let me use. As a four-year-old, I was in awe of Lamar because he was older and seemed so grown up.
