Obituary
Derek Keith Koonce, resident of Chiefland, Florida passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida. He was 55 years old. Derek was born on January 17, 1967 in New Bern, North Carolina to Linwood and Joann Koonce. He retired from the Florida Department of Corrections where he was a correctional officer at Lancaster Correctional Institution in Trenton. While working at Lancaster, he became known for his accuracy and precision shooting skills with the competitive shooting competitions for correctional officers. Derek was an avid Florida Gators fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. He found most enjoyment spending time with family, friends and his grand pups. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Knauff Funeral Home of Chiefland at 11 AM. The family will receive friends for a visitation at 10 AM. Brother Wayne Williams will officiate. Knauff Funeral Homes are honored to serve the Koonce family.
