Edith Williams

Edith Marie Williams, lovingly known as “Marie” and “Mam-ma” to so many, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, in Gainesville, Florida, at the age of 88.

Born on September 21, 1937, in Raleigh, North Carolina, Marie was the cherished daughter of Floyd and Mary Hester. She grew up alongside her brother, Sonny. Later in life, she also shared a special bond with Sonny's wife, Jean, who remained close to her.

Marie raised her family in Miami and later in Williston, Florida, where she was a longtime resident and built a life centered around love, strength, and devotion to her children. She spent her final two years in Tampa, Florida, surrounded by family.

She built a meaningful and admirable career as a Miami Dade Police Officer, serving her community with courage, resilience, and determination. She carried that same strength into every role she held in life — as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

Above all else, Marie loved her family. She was the proud mother of six children: Cyndi, Tammy, Connie, Rocky, Tracey, and Charlie. She was also blessed with sons- and daughters-in-law Alan, Wilson, Cassie, Claud, and Lucy. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Tiffany, Lance, Jewell, Tommy, Amber, and Austin; her grandchildren-in-law Jack and Wesley; and her beloved great-grandchildren Weston, Rhys, and Mila Marie.

Marie had a passion for playing golf, watching golf tournaments, cheering on NASCAR races, and faithfully watching every sport played by the Miami Hurricanes. Whether it was game day or race day, she was always tuned in and cheering loudly. More than anything, she treasured time spent with her family and friends.

Marie was a true spitfire — bringing joy, laughter, and just the right amount of spice to every room she entered. Her vibrant personality and quick wit made her unforgettable to all who knew her.

She loved fiercely, laughed loudly, and lived fully. Her family was her greatest pride and joy, and the love she gave will continue to echo through generations.

Marie will be deeply missed and forever remembered as the heart of her family.
