Robert Greaves

Rev. Dr. Robert Greaves, at age 89, joined His Lord and Loved Ones on October 25, 2022. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to Robert Edward and Margaret Emily Greaves, both deceased. Pre-deceased him are two brothers, Charles Edward and Dr. Douglas Greaves, and a son Robert Charles Greaves. He leaves his wife Patricia of 37 years, 4 children Peggy Williams, Julie Ewing, Rob Shepard, and Jeanette Frisbey; 10 grandchildren Mario, Kristen, Nick, Kaylyn, Marissa, Dallas, Grey, Anna, Sama, and Constance, six great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law Earl McNeel, and a beloved fur-baby Charlie. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in Germany with the Military Police from May 15, 1953, to May 5, 1955. Dr. Greaves received his Theological Degree from Bible Baptist Seminary, Johnson City, New York; attended Pittsburgh Theological Seminary; and earned a Dr. of Education from Luther Rice Seminary, Jacksonville, Florida. He was ordained into the American Baptist Churches USA in 1960. He served Pine City Baptist Church in New York, overseeing the construction of a new church complex and moving on to Monroeville, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh, where he organized the founding of First Baptist Church, Monroeville, overseeing two major building projects serving the Church for twenty years. He was honored by the Pittsburgh Press in 1974 for Outstanding Clergy. He joined the VA Pittsburgh Neuropsychiatric Hospital and was promoted to Chief of Chaplain Services for the Butler PA Medical Center. In 1991, he was awarded by the American Baptist Churches USA as Institutional Chaplain of the Year at the San Jose National Convention. Moving to Ocala, Florida, he was instrumental in organizing the Ocala Palms Worship Community and served as Pastor for 13 years. He also was a Staff Chaplain for Hospice of Marion County for 13 years receiving the Employee of the Year Award in 2006. Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Ocala on November 19, 2022, at 11 a.m., 511 SE Third Street, Ocala, FL 34471, with Rev. Dr. Walk C. Jones officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be at Crossroads Cemetery in Monroeville, Pennsylvania in Spring 2023.The family would like to thank nurse Trudi and care aid Gloria from Hospice of Marion County; your presence and care were great blessings.
