Nin Garrett

Obituary
Nin Duncan Garrett was born March 22,1943 in northwest Georgia and passed away August 13, 2022 in Cedar Key, Florida. She always relished her childhood in Rome, especially horseback riding through the campus of Berry College and her high school days driving the streets in her spiffy sports car. After high school, Nin spread her wings when she moved to Washington DC to attend George Washington University. At GW she found lifelong friends with whom she remained in contact till the end of her life. She settled in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina where she and her husband, Col. Robert F. M. Duncan ran a small real estate business. In 1980 they welcomed their son, John Francis Duncan, into the world. Nins life took her to places far and wide. She was well traveled across the United States and Europe. Ultimately, it would be the small country of Costa Rica that would steal her heart. Her work with the leadership of the Womens Club of Costa Rica brought her into contact with the countrys high society. For ten years Nin lived the "pura vida" in Costa Rica and loved every single moment. Her home in Escazu became renowned for parties and social gatherings. For the rest of her life she would sing Costa Ricas praises, encouraging people to visit the place she considered the most beautiful on earth. In 1993, Nin married the one she would forever consider her true love, Daniel T Garrett. Nin, J, Dan and his daughter, Suzanne, built a new life in the small town of Tyrone, Georgia. Along with caring for Dan, J,and Suzanne, Nin was always volunteering her time and talents at places like The Heritage School and the Optimist Club. Having vacationed in Cedar Key, Florida for many years it was no surprise when in 2016 she and Dan retired to live in their "cottage" full time. She genuinely believed there was no such thing as a bad day in Cedar Key. Nin loved knowing that wherever she went on the island, breakfast at Annies, church at Christ Episcopal Church or just driving the streets, there would be friendly and familiar faces. Nin is preceded in death by her mother and father, as well as her sister Marjorie (Hamilton) Reyes. Nin leaves behind her devoted husband, Daniel Garrett, son, J Duncan and his wife Kasi Spyker-Duncan, stepdaughter, Suzanne Allen, her husband John, and their children, Jackson, James, and Esther Allen. Her passing was noted by the wealth of loving friends on the island. A small memorial service was held August 17, 2022 for close family and friends at Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Key, Florida. The family requests that in lieu of sympathies or flowers those who wish to pay respects do so by forgiving long-held grievances. Arrangements are under the care of Knauff Funeral Home of Chiefland.
