Steve Messaros

Steve was born on June 18, 1939 to Zollie Steve and Antoinette Dawn Vicarel Messaros in Youngstown, Ohio. His mother died a few years later at the age of thirty and Steve lived with various family members, mostly with his paternal grandmother until his father re-married to Mary Kinkela. They then moved into their first new home in Poland, Ohio. The family lived there until Steve finished the sixth grade. From there the family moved to Struthers, Ohio, where Steve graduated high school in June 1958. After graduation Steve was drafted by the Army but instead enlisted to get a better assignment. He served six years active duty with a one year break to enter Youngstown State University. The last three years of service he was stationed at Davison US Army Airfield, located just south of Washington D.C. It was here Steve met the love of his life, Linda Natalie Hahn Messaros. They were married on September 5, 1964 in Miami, which is where Linda grew up. After receiving his honorable discharge from the Army in 1965. Steve was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Virginia. He transferred to Florida in 1967. He ended his postal career after serving many years at the Williston, Florida Post Office and retired in June 1998 with a total of 35 years of government service. He was proud of serving his country this long. Steve cherished the summertime when he and Linda would have all four grandchildren spending summer with them. He loved his grandchildren more than they will ever know. Steve loved being outdoors being Mr.Fixit, and loved hunting and fishing, doing both until his arthritis affected his hands. Steve loved the times when the family would gather together at the beach for Thanksgiving. Steve is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Linda N. Messaros, his daughters Pamela Lynn Messaros McVay (Bob) of Ft. Walton Beach Florida and Cheri Ann Messaros Sullivan (Hank) of Atlanta Georgia. Steve has four grandchildren, Ashlee McVay, Logan McVay, Elizabeth Sullivan, and Henry Sullivan. Steve also leaves behind an older sister, Delores Messaros Goldfarb (Martin). Marylou Messaros Watt (John) and Linda Messaros Lieberman (Paul) and a brother Jack Messaros (Kathy) as well as many nieces and nephews Steve was preceded in death by his birth mother, his father and his step-mother, and both maternal and paternal grandparents. Steve made the choice that when God called him home and his life on earth ended, that he would be cremated. A Visitation will be held on August 26, 2022 from 6 to 8 pm at Knauff Funeral Home 512 E. Noble Avenue Williston, FL. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday August 27th, 2022 at 11:00 am at Knauff Funeral Home Chapel.
