When I was little (about 7 or 8 y/o for this story) I spent lots of time with Uncle Gordon and Aunt Nancy. I'm an only child so I carried around a tape recorder I would talk to, or record random conversations, music, etc... and on one of our trips to North Carolina with Uncle Gordon driving, Aunt Nancy and I were in the front seat, and Uncle Gordon's mom and my Grams (Aunt Nancy mom) were in the back seat. You can hear Grams, at a little distance, at one point say "ohhhhhh there's a gopher" (turtle crossing the road) and then you hear a really loud bang and everyone sucking in their breath...it's really quiet for a couple seconds and then, because she was beside me it comes up louder, Aunt Nancy said, with that oh well voice she has, "there WAS a gopher". Now at the time there was nothing special, but later at the cabin I played that recording to them because they were talking about hitting the turtle, and I've NEVER seen all 4 of them laugh so hard in my life at that point, at that little recording of that moment in time. By the time we returned home about 2 weeks later they had me play that so many times, and then wanted it played to everyone. I'm almost 56 now, and thru the years we still talked about that tape and laugh. I have that cassette in a box now to be put onto a disc or flash so I can play it again. I'm extremely sad that Uncle Gordon didn't get the chance to hear it again. But I will get Aunt Nancy to hear it. If you bring this story up to her now I know she will chuckle, but playing the tape for her I hope makes her laugh as hard as she did back then. I just wish I could have played it for them together. Even though I was that young, that moment and the hilarious hard laughing from them both for nearly 50 years simply talking about it is a treasured memory for me. I had no idea back then that this tape was that funny, and would still be the last time we talked about it maybe 2-3 years ago sitting on the back porch. I miss and love you Uncle Gordon ❤️
