Obituary

Donald Jesse Tanner, resident of Williston, Florida, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022. He was 88. Donald was born on February 12, 1934 in Ocklawaha, Florida, to Marcus and Maude Tanner. He lived most of his life in Williston. He worked as a Section Foreman for the Railroad then took a job with Williston Electric, from there he worked for the City of Williston from 1964-1996 and became the Director of Utilities as well as Building Inspector, Fireman, Fire Chief and held General and Electrical Contractor's Licenses. Donald had a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing and was a member of Magee Branch and Chiefland Hunting Clubs. He adored his grandchildren and enjoyed teaching them to hunt. He is survived by his sons, Cecil Tanner (Cathy), Dean Pogue (Maggie), Mike Pogue and daughter in law, Liz Pogue. His grandchildren, Sydney Pogue, Jesse Wyatt Pogue, James Cade Pogue and Graham Pogue, Angela Carpenter and Tommy Smothers and great grandchildren Aaron, Alyssa and Jake. He was preceded in death by his brothers Homer and Roscoe, sister Dorothy, his wives Mae and Martha, and daughter Brenda Pogue. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Williston, Florida. The service will begin at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jason Owenby officiating. Knauff Funeral Home of Williston is honored to serve the Tanner family during their time of transition.
