Obituary
David McKee Shewey, Sr. was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He left this world on December 25th, 2021 at the age of 86. Dave was born to Charles and Harriett Shewey on May 25th, 1935 in Columbus, Ohio. His family moved to Florida where he graduated from Bronson High School in 1953. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force as a Target Systems Mechanic from 1954 to 1958. He later received two degrees from Santa Fe Junior College and graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Dave was passionate about his career in law enforcement, serving as a state trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol and later as Chief Deputy and Chief Investigator with the Levy County Sheriff's Office, where he retired in 2003. Dave loved spending time with his family, catching up with his old Air Force and law enforcement buddies, fishing in Cedar Key, enjoying Irish music while embracing his Celtic heritage, and doing any yard work he could find. During his tenure with the Sheriff's Office, he worked for two years as a security contractor in Zaire, Africa (now known as the Democratic Republic of the Congo.) Dave was an expert storyteller, and his loved ones always enjoyed him sharing the memories of his travels. He was very proud of his family and bragged about them every chance he got. Dave is survived by his beautiful wife of 61 years, Barbara. They met at Bronson Sundries shortly after he returned home from the service, and it was love at first sight. Dave spotted Barbara standing in line with a friend, and mentioned to his buddy, "Im going to marry that girl." They wed on December 18th, 1960. Dave is also survived by his younger brother, Bob; his son, David, Jr.; his son, Thomas and his wife, Dora; his granddaughter, Ashley; his granddaughter, Stephanie and her husband, Jared; and his twin great-grandsons, Everett and Wyatt. Daves life and legacy will be honored at a ceremony held at 10 AM on Saturday, January 29th, 2022 at Knauff Funeral Home, 715 West Park Avenue, Chiefland, FL. All of Daves family and friends are invited to come and pay their respects. The family asks that instead of wearing black, everyone in attendance wear a shade of green, Daves favorite color. Dave Shewey was an honorable man. I grew up living next to his mothers home in Bronson. I loved the summers when the Shewey kids came to visit. I remember one morning mom was taking us to school and was speeding, she always had a lead foot. Sure enough Dave pulled her over and she was wearing her nightgown! Dave let her go with a warning..we were still late. God bless you Shewey family. I treasure my memories of times we shared

Dave was my uncle, my father Bill Shewey was Dave's half brother, I'm sad to say that I didn't get to visit him more over the years. I only met him a couple times when I was around 10 to 12 years old. but would talk to him on the phone from time to time. My Uncle Dave would always be so happy to talk to you and make you feel like you were the most important person in the world, his wife, my Aunt Barbara makes you feel the same way as well . I would usually end a phone call with "Im proud to be related to you Uncle Dave" and I will still tell him that. And Uncle Dave thank you for discovering "Blue Springs" I'll never forget it. I will always remember Dave as a person I was glad to know. He treated everybody with respect, and his dedication to doing everything right was a wonder to behold. He definitely was one of the good guys.

Captain Shewey was a great friend to our family and a mentor to me at the Levy County Sheriff's Office. He will be greatly missed. Our deepest condolences to his family.
