Hazel Karsky

Hazel L. Karsky April 22, 1929 - November 5, 2021 Hazel L. Karsky was born on April 22, 1929 to Ralph M. Manning and Anne E. Green, in Doctors Inlet, Clay County, Florida. She grew up along with her older brother Edward and older sister Edith on their parents farm. She graduated from the local high school and began to do office work to help support the farm. After WWII, she met her future husband Albert F. Karsky while he was serving in the Navy as a welder, in Green Cove Springs, Florida They married April 29,1957 after finishing his navy service, and moved to Jacksonville, Florida. He worked for one of the three shipyards that was in Jacksonville. As work slacked off and the shipyards reduced their workforce. He became a mechanic for one of the local car garages. Now having a growing family with their their daughter Linda. Hazel & Ski decided that he could earn more by going back into the Navy. Going to the navy recruitment office, he was approached by an Air Force recruiter who told him he could offer him a better job than the navy could. No sea duty and being a member of a flight crew convinced Hazel and Ski the Air Force was the better offer. During skis service; Hazels duties were many and diverse First and foremost she was a mother raising Linda so working with PTA and military wife groups. When Linda was in high school and Ski was deployed to Vietnam. Hazel was a Shift supervisor for Continental paper cup company. This company was so impressed with her work performance, they tried several times over the years to get the family to relocate back to Delaware. After his two tours in Vietnam and many more promotions; Ski was the Non- Commissioned Officer In Charge of the Air Force Training School at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois. Hazel became the senior NCO spouse for the NCOs spouses. Helping new young spouse to adjust to military life and socials. When Linda health deteriorated and they found that she had a brain tumor. Hazel & Ski took early retirement from the Air Force to relocate to Jacksonville for medical attention. Hazel became full time care provider for Linda add Ski became a supervisor at BESCO which he also retired. After Lindas death in 1994, Hazel and Ski moved to Chiefland and their retirement home. They were very active with church, extended family and friends for many years until health issues prevented first Hazel and then Ski from attending activities outside their home. Hazel was predeceased by her parents, siblings, daughter and husband of sixty-five.
