Obituary

Brian David Smith, 51 of Trenton, Florida passed away unexpectedly in Tallahassee on January 24th, 2026. Born September 12th, 1974, in Gainesville, Florida. He was the son of Woodrow Smith and Martha Slaughter Smith. A man with a servant's heart, deep faith, and devoted to helping others.

Brian had a loving heart and resilient soul. He found joy in working outside, whether it be yard work, or building things. One of his greatest joys was being a “Pop-Pop” to his grandchildren. He found fulfillment in watching gator games and Star Wars with his family. He had a successful family business of building pole barns for 18 years, with his father, brother and his uncles. He was also well known in his high school days as “Horse” for his hard hitting tackles as middle linebacker at Trenton High School. He had an unwavering love and devotion for his high school sweetheart and wife Teresa. He lived his life with unbelievable resilience, strength and love. No matter what was thrown his way he persevered. His memory will continue through his wife, kids, grandchildren and an abundance of family and friends.

Brian is preceded in death by his parents Woodrow Smith, His Birth Mother Martha Slaughter Smith, and His Mother who raised him Darlene Thomas Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Canova Smith, and his children Gavan Smith (Jolene) & Cason Smith (Grace). He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Eden Sanders, Eeva Sanders, Reese Smith, and Hampton Smith. As well as his siblings, Todd Smith (Yolanda), Kristen Brault (Ross), and Brother-in-Law, David Canova (Amanda). He also has a vast array of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews, extended family and friends who will forever cherish and hold on to his memory.

A celebration of life will be held at Pine Grove Baptist Church on Saturday, January 31st, 2026 at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
