Nanada Smith

Lifelong Williston resident, Nanada (Nan) Brooks Smith went home to be with her Heavenly Father on May 14, 2021. She spent the last 3 years of her life as a resident of Terrace Health & Rehabilitation Center in Gainesville Florida where she made many good friends. Nan loved the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. She enjoyed the view from her front porch and bird watching. She loved and served her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Family and friends were very important to Nan and she treasured each and every relationship formed over the years. A music lover, Nan taught herself to play the piano and together with friends sang on the radio. An avid sports fan, Nan loved her Williston Red Devils and Florida Gators. On Friday nights, she wore her Red and White with pride and would be adorned in her Orange and Blue on Saturdays. She loved the beach and the simple things in life, such as singing Gospel and Country Music with family and friends around a campfire. After graduating from Williston High School, in 1963, Nan would then attend Business School. Her career included employment as secretary to Levy County Superintendent, secretary at Levy County Clerks Office, secretary for Levy County Commissioners, and lastly as secretary to Williston High School Principal, Rick Turner. She later retired from the Levy County School Board. Nan married her true love, Roy ODonell Smith, Jr (Donell) on June 17, 1983. They began their journey as life partners and remained as such until his passing, in 2002. Nan and Donell raised their children and treasured becoming grandparents. Together, they enjoyed a wonderful and fulfilling life. Nan was preceded in death by her parents Oliver B. Brooks (father), Mildred E. Kindt (mother), husband Roy ODonell Smith, Jr, (Donell), Ann Brooks (sister), and Burke E. Brooks, Sr. Survivors include son, Greg Yancey (Theresa, Jenna, Brooks, Brittany, Autumn, Brandi), daughters, Angela Yancey (JJ Matus) (Garrett Parnell) and Hope Staley (Scott, Ryan, Gracie, Emma), step son-Jacky Smith (Amy, Riley, Little Donell) and step-daughter Tammy Davis (Dennis, Ethan, Eli, Olivia, Elliot), sisters Gail Brooks, Eva Brooks Watson (Buddy) and brothers Baker Brooks (Peggy), Terry Brooks, Sr, (Pam) and Joe Brooks Sr., all of Williston. Services are planned for Wednesday, May 19, 2021, 11:00 am, graveside at Orange Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Knauff Funeral Home of Williston and Pastor Wes Smith of the Williston Church of God.
